About

Ray Azule Jameson is an LA based artist working with several mediums to create art centering on themes of performance, queer identity, spaces, and the body. Ray was born in New York City and raised in Oakland, CA. He is fiercely proud of his hometown and aspires to someday create public art on behalf of the city. His first forays into art came through the form of performance. Ray attended the acting program at Oakland School for the Arts, shaping both his skills as a performer as well as his views and ideologies. Starting photography during the pandemic, Ray created street photography evoking loneliness and open space. The project culminating into a photo book. After emerging from the pandemic Ray sought out new mediums with which to present his work. After experimenting with drawing and animation, Ray began to incorporate sculpture alongside new techniques within his photography. Evoking his background in theatre and a love of visual composition, Ray uses performance and light to create works intended to immerse the viewer, capturing both their time and imagination. For Ray, authenticity is a key value to the work. In his photography, no digital manipulation is present.
